ASUS ROG (Republic of Gamers) Phone

ASUS ROG Gaming Smartphone

ASUS has long been known for developing high-end gaming devices, and it has decided to take on a new market, the Android gaming smartphones market.

Last month, Asus released the ROG Smartphone as its entry phone into the Gaming smartphone market. The 6 inch 2,160 x 1,080 HDR device has AMOLED display with the 90Hz refresh rate (refreshes itself 90 times per second). The AMOLED display is welcomed and is a huge step taken to provide better contrast and deeper colours. There is a dual 12 MP + 8 MP rear camera and 8 MP front camera alongside a fingerprint scanner.

ASUS didn’t come to play as the Qualcomm SDM845 Snapdragon 845 octa-core processor clocked at 2.8 GHz has been overclocked to 2.96GHz to provide an excellent experience. There is an 8 GB RAM to help improve game performance.

To curb overheating caused by long gaming time, the device also has a cooling system (external heatsink) and 3 USB ports (one at the bottom, two at the sides) to accommodate peripherals coming with the phone. The storage space is as high as 512 GB.

The external heatsink can be mounted to the back of the phone and has a fan to keep the phone cool while also having an additional USB C port and headphone Jack.

The is also a gamepad that can stream wirelessly to your television. The gamepad when connected to your device connects wirelessly to a receiver inserted into your TV and allows you to play games on your TV.

ASUS is also selling a dock that allows you to connect your ROG Smartphone to any monitor and use mouse and Keyboards for gameplay. This feature is useful for gamers who are used to playing games with the keyboard and also provides a broader view.

There is also a Twin View handled shell sold by ASUS to turn this phone into a full something like a Nintendo DS with dual screen. The Phone has a 4000mAh battery, while the Twin View has a 6000 mAh battery.

Considering the peripherals, specifications and support, I might be tempted to say the ASUS ROG is the ideal gaming smartphone.

Razer Phone

razer phone

Razer smartphone happens to be the first dedicated gaming smartphone, and its selling point is the 120 GHz screen refresh rate. Launched last year, the 5.7-inch device has 8 GB of RAM to handle powerful games and multitasking thus preventing any lags. Though the phone’s design has been a source of concern, it is has lived up to expectations as it is the device that set the pace for others to follow.

A Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 Processor adorns it, along with a big 4000 mAh battery to handle long hours of gameplay and twin speakers with Dolby Atmos support are part of the phone’s specifications. The device also comes with preinstalled games that support the 120 GHz refresh rate.

The Razer phone might witness some upgrades very soon given that the Black Shark and ROG smartphones are ready to dominate. Being the first dedicated gaming device in this category it deserves a place in our list.

There are still some phones out there that are good for gaming too based on their specifications and can handle any game out there.

moto mod gamepad

The Samsung Galaxy S8, S9, and S9+ can handle pretty much any game out there because of their size, RAM and Processor which is similar to What we have seen in the gaming devices above, the Moto Z series is tailored for games and audios as they have the dedicated Moto Mods accessories such as the Moto GamePad to aid gameplay, also Huawei’s Honor 7X and P20 Pro can do the trick.

There will certainly be more devices in this categories and we will soon see more games targeting the specifications of these devices to give us more experience.
