How to Partition USB Drive on Windows 10?


Universal Serial Bus (USB) as it is well known, comes in different shapes and sizes, and apart from a pen drive that sticks in your pocket to the heavy-duty drives that are tied to your desktop for a long time.


Setting the various advantages that of USB devices, it’s like humans to zero in on the shortcomings of the device. One thing that often pops up is how most USB devices are single partitioned.

While having a partition in your USB device might come in handy that is if you wish to carry a Bootable OS around and still be able to transfer files.

Although it’s possible to partition any drive using the computer management protocol, the software mentioned below will come in handy when you need to partition USB drive or any other drive in a few seconds.

1. How to Use AOMEI Partition Assistant Standard Edition?


This software provides users with an interface to partition USB devices. The steps to follow have been listed below:

  • Download and install AOMEI Partition Assistant Standard Edition on your Windows computer
  • Afterwards, you can launch the software and then right-click on the USB device and click on Create Partition
  • Use the slider bar to determine the size of the partition and then click on OK when you are done
  • Note that the USB drive will now show two partitions. Click on Apply to confirm this change.
  • You can resize the partition by right-clicking on the USB device and selecting Resizing a partition.

2. How to Use Disk Management to Create a Partition?

The Disk Management tool found in Windows is also available to partition devices. Below are the steps you need to follow to partition a USB drive using Windows Disk Management.

  • Launch Windows Search and then type ‘diskmgmnt.msc’ and select Disk Management from the list that appears
  • You will be provided with a list, on the list, select the USB drive you need to partition and then right-click on it and then select ‘Shrink Volume’.
  • Next, you will be taken to another window that will display the total size of the disk and the space available to shrink. The tab will allow you to enter the amount of space that you want to shrink in megabytes (MBs). then click on ‘Shrink’.
  • The next window will show you an option called ‘Neglected Space.’ Then right-click on it and select on select ‘New Simple Volume.’
  • The next step will take you to the Simple Volume Wizard where a statement would specify the maximum and minimum size that is available there you will be made to choose the specific volume that you want.
  • Then you have to assign a drive letter or a path.
  • Under the ‘Format Partition’ section, select ‘NTFS’ and then click on ‘Next’.
  • Finally, if everything goes smoothly, the New Simple Wizard will take you to the final page that will tell you you have completed the New Volume Simple Wizard. the last thing that you need to do is to click on the ‘Finish’ button and you are good to go.
